Nunda Township is a unit of local government serving unincorporated areas of McHenry County, Illinois. We provide essential services directly to residents — from road maintenance and property assessment to general assistance and senior programs.
What Is a Township?
Illinois has over 1,400 townships, making it one of the most township-active states in the country. A township is the layer of government closest to you — closer than the county, closer than the state. Township government handles the everyday things that directly affect your neighborhood: maintaining local roads, assessing property values fairly, helping residents in financial need, and keeping local government accessible and accountable.
Nunda Township was established in 1850 and serves the unincorporated areas of McHenry County that are within the township’s boundaries. If you live outside an incorporated city or village in this area, Nunda Township is your local government.
